USING TECHNOLOGY IN ARTS EDUCATION

TO FIND SOMETHING ON A WEB PAGE

  1. Use GOOGLE Advanced Search.
No other search engine can match it. Be sure to bookmark it (Netscape) or add it to your favorites (IE).
  2. Subscribe to newsletters dealing with your area of interest. Many of these are free.
  3. Post notes on open discussion forums within your subject area. People love to help you out.
  4. Don't hesitate to 'Add Page To Favorites' if you use Internet Explorer or 'Add Bookmark' if you use Netscape. You can't possibly remember all the potentially useful URLs you come across. And if you decide you don't need them, you can always delete them later.
  5. Use Site Maps. When you arrive at a potentially useful website, look for the Site Map first. Usually this is the one page that lists everything within the site in one place. So instead of hit and miss from the splash page menu, you can often find what you're looking for more quickly.

GETTING THE MOST OUT OF GOOGLE

Unconventional ways to find really cool websites.
Play the Whad'Ya Know Quiz.

If you've ever listened to Michael Feldman's Whad'Ya Know? program on public radio, you know this is a general knowledge quiz—not trivia. Somehow these folks find some of the most obscure, but often educational, sites to pull their questions from. So play the quiz to get your day started and you may find something really useful in the process. I've found many arts and educational sites like this, including Think Quest.)
