SIDE MAN a show to see!

Posted by Lydia on Mar 11, 2007 in Theatre

If you missed SIDE MAN at the Landmark Studio this week, you can still see it next Friday or Saturday. Jim Walker has pulled together a solid cast who work as a real ensemble. Jim Konkle and Tommye Geil had some great lighting going on, too.

A HOMECOMING to play at the Landmark

Posted by Lydia on Nov 21, 2006 in Theatre

Here’s the press release…

Join the Landmark Players for their heartwarming Christmas Special “The Homecoming,” at 8:00 on December 1, 2, 8 and 9 as they take you back in time to Christmas Eve, 1933, in rural Virginia. “The Homecoming” was written by Earl Hamner, Jr., who became best known for his novel “Spencer’s Mountain,” which was inspired by his own childhood and formed the basis for both the film of the same name and the television series, “The Waltons.” Although known on television as The Waltons, they’re called The Spencers in the original book, which is how they’re named here.

The time is the Great Depression and the large Spencer family is struggling hard just to survive. With their father having to take the only available job a long way from home, the family is worried when their father has not arrived home from work on Christmas Eve during a snowstorm.

The production contains all of your favorite characters from the television series. As it
includes many children, the Landmark Players Youth Theater Project has utilized their camera equipment and made a mini-movie which will be shown within the play that portrays the search for their missing father. Locations for the filming included the Sutton Courthouse, St. Michael’s Church at historic Bulltown Village and Maplewood-at-Sutton. The cast consists of Taylor Armstrong, Cheryle Bailes, Jason Bookheimer, Joe Boyce, Merleen Campbell, Westley Carpenter, Cendall Cowan, Lex DeGruyl, Camma Duchaine, Romeo Duchaine, Rebecca Maher, Briar Martin, Mike Morris, Mary Plymale, Jim Raywalt, Nathan Rexroad, Steve Sanders, Joshua Summers, Adam Tanner and Kathy Walker. Technical Crew consists of Tess Morris, Kyle Allen and Justin Blankenship. The cinematographers are Kevin Carpenter and Tom Allen. Chris Allen
directed the show with help from Mitzi Morris.

Reserved seating is now available. Tickets may be reserved by calling 765-3766. All season ticket holders and advertising sponsors need to reserve their seats. Reserved tickets may be picked up and paid for at the door on the evening of the performance by 7:45. Tickets not claimed by 7:45 will be sold to the general public. When calling for your reserved seat, please give your name, the number of tickets, the date of the performance, and any special needs you may have. Ticket prices are $8.00 for adults, $6.00 for seniors and $4.00 for students. An opening night special of $20.00 for a family is offered on December 1st only.

This is being presented with special arrangement with Dramatic Publishing. For help with special seating needs/or handicapped seats call Kathy Walker at 304-765-3462.

Summer Goings On

Posted by Lydia on Jun 17, 2006 in Theatre

I’ve gotten a little behind in my updates lately, but here’s some of what’s going on.

Tonight is the last performance of I LOVE YOU, YOU’RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE presented by the Fairmont Town & Gown players. For those of you who don’t know about this show, it’s a series of very funny musical-comedy vignettes about singlehood, dating, marriage, and aging relationships. The entire show is performed by 2 men and 2 women playing multiple parts. This show opened last weekend and shortly before that opening one of the male castmembers fell ill and director Jason A Young had to fill in at the last minute. It’s a funny and entertaining show. If you have a chance to see the last performance, do!

Showtime: 7:30 p.m. at Wallmann Hall
on the Fairmont State University campus.

LAURA to play at the Landmark Studio

Posted by Lydia on May 22, 2006 in Theatre

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE LANDMARK

Join the Landmark Players at 8:00 on June 2, 3, 9 and 10 as they solve the mystery of who killed Laura Hunt. Murder, intrigue and romance abound in Laura, by author Vera Caspary, which was published as a best selling novel in 1942.

In the opening sequences it is revealed that beauty Laura Hunt has been found on the floor of her home, murdered. It is up to detective Mark McPherson to find the killer. Aided only by a breathtaking portrait of the deceased, McPherson systematically grills the small group of eccentrics who knew her best, and in the process, finds he is falling in love with her. But things aren’t always what they seem, and McPherson soon faces a shocking, unexpected twist.

Vera Caspary went on to also write the stage adaption which was brought to life in 1944 by director Otto Preminger. His movie version of Laura was made in the film noir style (literally ‘black film or cinema’), and received four Oscar nominations with its theme song becoming one of the most recorded songs in the world. The film noir genre of movies was a style of black and white American crime and detective films that evolved in the 1940′s. The play is a dark, melodramatic thriller, awash in snappy dialogue, yet it possesses an air of refined and offbeat elegance, qualities not usually found among the moody mysteries and tortured love stories of the noir genre. In the gritty world that is film noir, Laura remains one of the most refined and elegant examples of the art, but under the tasteful decor and high-society characters lies a world seething in jealousy, passion, and murder. The “hot jazz” music of that time, which ushered in the Big Band Era, is prominently featured in the show.

The cast consists of Jim Raywalt, Moriah Gioulis Scher, Jeff Hudkins, Dana Cogar, Greg
Ramsey, Kathy Walker, Merleen Campbell and Joe Boyce. The director is Chris Allen.

Reserved seating is now available. Tickets may be reserved by calling 765-3766. All season ticket holders and advertising sponsors also need to reserve their seats.

This is being presented with special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service and the content is considered equal to a PG-13 movie rating. For help with special seating needs/or handicapped seats call Kathy Walker at 304-765-3462.
